Overview on Science
Information Vital to Life
Scientific information is so much a part of our lives today that in fact the world is getting to be "too much information." The window, however, includes something scientifically remarkable ... about design and life ... and we encourage a look here, especially in light of the other topic areas and key scenarios in WindowView ... because all together there is an awesome and remarkable big picture to view on life and purpose.
This Overview is a plain language starting point. The Thesis page opens the window further with added details—pointing to specific evidence you need to see. Both pages are an initial look at why science is telling us life is not just material, nor simply by chance, but is unique and very special. Humanity today has the data to say so. All we need do is look—objectively. To open the window further a few starting points are presented here.
Perspectives to Consider Up Front
There are two perspectives initially worth consideration before reading the text below and also before exploring more details the Science Area offers.
First, are we objective?
Do we have an open approach to gaining a proper understanding of evidence in science and even in Scripture? Take a look at this brief video:
|
Second, science and faith
Information that is out there in the world today has progressed to a point in time where conceptually we have arrived at an interface where science meets Scripture. The following brief video helps to illustrate this interface:

Being objective and understanding how data, evidence and information have accumulated over time and is more accessible in the present day is worth added reflection. Think about the means to being objective and what information has come together in the present day and that will help in the following brief orientation to what the Science Area contains including a new awareness plus interesting conclusions you may see within the window—that is, your window and what you can see if you open wide and take a look.
Orientation
This Overview is a brief lead up to details outlined in the Thesis page and the examples presented there are impressive, awesome and potentially opens minds to perceive a more realistic look at life (see list of examples below). The evidence for design in nature supports what is presented in both science and Scripture (which are also the topic given deeper attention in the Change and Harmony Areas).
Role of Science
The sciences allow us to explore and better understand the material realm we exist in. Recent scientific information helps to examine 'our story,' to better explain life's origin, and document changes in life history over time.
Many scientists often relate to the human material experience—typically material naturalism with natural cause and effect explanations. However, one key question to keep in mind here is: "In light of recent findings what else defines life and origins?” Sciences that contribute to an appreciation of design in nature include: astronomy, biology, cell biology, molecular structure, chemistry, physiology, metabolism, evolution, genetics, geology, information theory, paleontology, and physics.
Data Review
We need to know if the scientific data are evaluated correctly, objectively, and is there is more to the story of life. What do the data tell us? Where does the evidence really lead us? This is a question for all humanity to consider!
Design in Nature Examples
The science area introduction provides reference to intelligent design. Evidence points to complex and specific information and that points to design needing the mind of a designer. The concept of our being a product of intelligent design gains more and more substantiation as the design evidence grows ever more.
Interesting Point: Rarely given significant recognition is the fact that the basis to the universe and all life is information. That isn’t material. What is material rests on creation of energy. Remarkably you are a product of specific and complex information and exact forms of energy!
Multiple lines of evidence from multiple sciences are accumulating rapidly in recent decades. While not every example will be described here, the following lists a number of topic areas that will be given some attention on the next page (Thesis Page).
The examples include:
• Necessity-Chance-Design
• Fine Tuning (e.g., astronomy, life systems, etc.)
• Information (e.g., genetic, body plan, etc.)
• Irreducible Complexity
• Molecular Machines
• Causal Circularity
• Developmental Circuitry
• Life Probability
• Life Forms (Sudden Appearance, Complex Body Plan)
• Origin of Life
